Photos, newspapers, coins and historic records among time capsules’ contents Fifty years ago today, on a cold 58-degree afternoon, two time capsules were entombed in a vault outside what is now Atrium Health Navicent The Medical Center. One is dated Feb. 28, 1973, and the other is from 1916.

Hospital recognized for achievement in improving patient safety and medical outcomes The Georgia Hospital Association Partnership for Health and Accountability (PHA) has presented a prestigious Patient Safety and Quality Award to Monroe County Hospital, an Atrium Health Navicent Partner, for a project demonstrating a reduced risk of contamination in the collection of blood cultures used to diagnose infection. More than 29,000 pounds of food provided to individuals facing food insecurity Since opening to the public in February 2022, the Atrium Health Navicent Healthy Communities Food as Medicine Market and Food Farmacy program has fed more than 1,800 central Georgians facing food insecurity. “The Food as Medicine Market and Food Farmacy program is bridging barriers to health care in our community by expanding access to healthy food and helping individuals learn how to make healthier choices,” said Atrium Health Navicent President Delvecchio Finley. “Food insecurity is a major barrier preventing many people in our community from living their best lives. We’re proud to celebrate the program’s one-year anniversary and look forward to helping more individuals to live healthier in 2023.” In the program’s first year, more than 29,000 pounds of food were made available to individuals facing food insecurity.

Atrium Health Navicent Launches Rise to Success Program to Help Train Health Care Workers of the Future

Graduating high school seniors are eligible to apply for entrance into Atrium Health Navicent’s new Rise to Success Program which will provide part-time employment and financial support for students pursing health care careers. Participants have the opportunity to earn an associate degree at a local community college while gaining valuable on-the-job experience, and with Atrium Health Navicent helping to pay for tuition, books and fees. “There’s a growing need for health care workers across the country, including here at Atrium Health Navicent, and we want to empower young people to seek these careers while receiving education and work experience close to home,” said Atrium Health Navicent Chief Human Resources Officer and Atrium Health Chief Experience Officer Vishal Bhalla. “By providing opportunities to these students, we’re making an investment in the future of health care in our community and in our region’s economy.” Eligible fields of study for the Rise to Success program include medical assistant, nurse, certified nursing assistant, occupational or physical therapy, phlebotomy, pharmacy technology, respiratory therapy, surgical technology, sonography and ultrasound, radiology and imaging.

More than 30,000 ounces of milk have been donated by local mothers The milk depot at Atrium Health Navicent Beverly Knight Olson Children’s Hospital is celebrating its second year of linking central Georgia mothers with extra breast milk with babies in need. Since opening on Feb. 11, 2021, the milk depot has collected 30,216 ounces of donor breast milk, enough to provide nutrition for as many as 120,800 premature babies.

The Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) has awarded accreditation to the laboratory at Atrium Health Navicent Peach based on results of a recent on-site inspection conducted by CAP inspectors. The laboratory at Atrium Health Navicent Peach is now one of more than 8,000 CAP-accredited facilities worldwide. “Atrium Health Navicent Peach is proud to provide high-quality care and laboratory services close to home for residents of Houston, Peach and surrounding counties,” said Atrium Health Navicent Peach CEO Laura Gentry. “We are committed to maintaining laboratory quality to provide safe, reliable services for our patients and area physicians.” The U.S. government recognizes the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program, begun in the early 1960s, as being equal-to or more-stringent-than the government’s own inspection program.
