Before Your Surgery

SURGERY AT TMCPC

Before your surgery, we ask that you follow these important safety rules. If not followed, your operation may be delayed or canceled.

You will be required to fast prior to your surgery. Please follow these guidelines unless your doctor instructs you differently.

  • DO NOT EAT OR DRINK after midnight the night before your operation.
  • Infants under one year of age may consume formula up to 6 hours prior to their scheduled surgical time.
  • Breast milk may be consumed up to 4 hours prior to the scheduled surgical time.
  • Do not consume alcoholic beverages, chew gum or tobacco or eat candy after midnight the night before your surgery.
  • Do not smoke after midnight the night before your surgery.
  • If you take a blood thinner, please tell your surgeon.
  • Do not bring jewelry or other valuables.
  • If you have any change in your physical condition indicating the occurrence of respiratory infection (cold), a fever of 100 degrees F or higher, a skin rash or an infection of any kind, or any change related to the purpose of your procedure, notify your physician before coming in. This will likely postpone your procedure and we will reschedule you for a later date.
  • If there is a possibility you are pregnant, please be sure to discuss this with your physician. If you are of childbearing age, unless there is a history of previous sterilization, we do a pregnancy test on all female patients.
  • Please limit the number of people accompanying you to no more than two. They are welcome to stay with you or we will call them when you are ready to go home.
  • Times vary, but you can plan to be with us from one to four hours.
