Initiative to reduce blood clots in patients has been recognized by The Georgia Hospital Association Atrium Health Navicent has been presented with a Georgia Hospital Association Patient Safety and Quality Award for the project, “Preventing VTE.” The project won third place for improving patient safety in a hospital with more than 300 beds. The annual Patient Safety and Quality Awards recognize Georgia health care organizations for achievement in reducing the risk of medical errors and improving patient safety and medical outcomes.

In observance of Birth Defects Awareness Month, physicians at Atrium Health Navicent encourage expectant mothers and women of child-bearing age to become educated about steps they can take to prevent and detect birth defects. Birth defects — structural changes present at birth that can affect almost any part of the body — affect 1 in every 33 babies born in the United States each year and are the leading cause of infant deaths, accounting for 20 percent of all infant deaths, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
