October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and doctors at Atrium Health Navicent Peyton Anderson Cancer Center invite the community to help raise awareness about breast cancer by encouraging screening for early detection and treatment. Accounting for about 30 percent of all new female cancers each year, breast cancer is the second most common cancer among American women.

Atrium Health Navicent and the Mercer University School of Medicine are hosting visitors this fall from Kurobe City Hospital for the 19th year of a unique medical exchange rooted in a 46-year sister city partnership between Macon-Bibb County and Kurobe, Japan. Each year since 2003 — with the exception of a two-year pause during the COVID-19 pandemic — resident physicians, nurses and other health care providers from Kurobe City Hospital have visited Atrium Health Navicent and Mercer University, and physicians and nurses from Atrium Health Navicent and Mercer University have traveled to Kurobe City Hospital to share their knowledge and learn from their international counterparts.
Atrium Health Navicent Continues Program to Help Georgians Start Careers in Health Care

Bridge to Success is accepting applications Oct. 2 to Oct. 13 Applications will be accepted beginning next week for an Atrium Health program that’s helping individuals jumpstart their health care careers. The Bridge to Success program, launched in central and south Georgia in the spring, helps selected applicants earn an associate degree by offering up to three years of up-front tuition and book assistance, with a maximum $5,250 tuition cost.

Baldwin County Commissioners chose Atrium Health Navicent EMS in a vote Tuesday Beginning in November, Atrium Health Navicent will be providing emergency medical services (EMS) for Baldwin County. Baldwin County Commissioners voted on Tuesday to approve a proposal from Atrium Health Navicent following a detailed and thorough selection process. “Community hospital-based EMS provides the best opportunity for a seamless continuum of care for patients, resulting in improved patient outcomes and high patient satisfaction,” said Atrium Health Navicent President of Hospitals and Clinics Luis Fonseca who also serves as CEO for Atrium Health Navicent Baldwin. “With pre-hospital care being delivered by Atrium Health Navicent EMS, we expect to see a patient-centered approach, improved response capabilities and patient outcomes.
Atrium Health Navicent Physicians Urge Families to Prioritize Healthy Habits to Fight Childhood Obesity

In observance of Pediatric Obesity Awareness Month, Atrium Health Navicent encourages parents to not only make healthy eating, sleep and exercise habits a priority for their children, but for the entire family to help set children on a path for a healthier future. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 14.7 million children and adolescents in the U.S. suffer from obesity, and 19.7 percent of children are considered obese.

Located at Atrium Health Navicent Peyton Anderson Cancer Center and Atrium Health Navicent The Medical Center in Macon, Atrium Health Navicent Breast Care Center provides diagnostic imaging services used both in the prevention and treatment of breast cancer.
