Atrium Health Navicent’s Mobile Mammography Coach Takes Cancer Screenings to Women in Central and South Georgia
Atrium Health Navicent’s new mobile mammography coach will be making its way throughout central and south Georgia this spring, expanding access to lifesaving cancer screenings for women.
The Atrium Heath Navicent Mobile Mammography Coach is an advanced breast imaging system on wheels. Outfitted with a state-of-the-art, 3D digital machine, the coach is staffed by female technologists who are specially trained in screening mammography.
Since its debut in January, the 35-foot mobile mammography coach has already provided nearly 300 screenings as it has visited schools, businesses and community centers.
“Atrium Health Navicent is proud to be increasing access to mammograms, taking this service to the places where women live, work and live their lives to make it easier for them to participate in a screening,” said Atrium Health Navicent Mobile Mammography Program Manager Latasha Hill. “Breast cancer screening can detect cancer early, when it’s easier to treat.”
Accounting for about 30% of all new female cancers each year, breast cancer is the second most common cancer among American women. It’s recommended that all women have a baseline screening mammogram at age 40, and in some cases, women between the ages of 35 and 39 may also need a baseline mammogram.
Here’s where you can catch the mobile mammography coach in April and May:

When you arrive for a screening, the experience is similar to a physician’s appointment. The visit lasts approximately 15 minutes and is provided in a comfortable and private environment. Typically, mobile mammogram results will be returned within about two business days. If additional screening is needed, patients will be scheduled promptly for a follow-up appointment.
The mobile mammography unit is available to provide care at churches, neighborhoods and other convenient locations near you. Businesses and organizations interested in scheduling a visit by the Atrium Health Navicent Mobile Mammography Coach are asked to call 478-633-2003.
