Atrium Health Navicent Women's Care

Atrium Health Navicent Women's Care offers an array of minimally invasive procedures for both benign and malignant gynecologic conditions. Minimally invasive surgery has many benefits compared to traditional procedures. Patients can usually return to their life sooner, experience less pain after surgery, and have smaller skin incisions. Multiple gynecologic procedures and surgeries that are routinely cared for in Atrium Health Navicent Women's Care include:

  • Removal of the uterus (laparoscopic hysterectomy)
  • Removal of fibroids (laparoscopic myomectomy)
  • Surgical treatment of ovarian cysts (laparoscopic cystectomy)
  • Treatment of urinary and fecal incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse
  • Treatment of endometriosis and pelvic pain

Laparoendoscopic Single-Site Surgery (LESS) is an advanced minimally invasive approach in which the surgeon operates almost exclusively through a single entry point, typically the patient's navel. Advantages of LESS include better cosmetic results from a hidden scar under the belly button, less pain after surgery resulting in the need to use less pain medications, quicker recover time and fewer complications from fewer incisions. LESS surgery is available for women with:

  • Fibroids
  • Endometriosis
  • Ovarian cysts
  • Tubal ligations
  • Hysterectomies
  • Pelvic masses
  • Removal of ovaries
  • Early stage endometrial and ovarian cancers

Robotic Surgery
The Medical Center of Central Georgia offers state of the art technology with the da Vinci Robotic Surgical System for women's gynecological surgeries. Our physicians are skilled and trained to operate through small, dime-sized abdominal incisions and direct “robot arms” to perform the surgery through a variety of tiny surgical instruments. Seated at a console, the physician views the surgical area through a tiny endoscopic camera that reveals three-dimensional images magnified at 14 times greater than what the human eye can see. The controls at the console allow the physician to move the “robotic arms” eliminating the natural tremor of even the steadiest human hands. Surgeries include:

  • Cancer staging (cervical, endometrial, and ovarian)
  • Hysterectomy for large fibroid uteri
  • Treatment of endometriosis
  • Removal of pelvic masses
