Following six years in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and almost ten years of medical missionary service in the Philippines and Venezuela, I came back to Macon in 1998. I had worked here as a resident in the early 1980's. I felt the opportunities I had as a resident to manage complicated patients here in a supportive teaching program provided a better learning environment for Family Medicine than major tertiary care residencies in Houston and San Antonio. I was attracted by the unique opportunities this residency offers to provide quality patient care in a busy office practice, train students and residents, and also be involved in clinical research. Macon is a beautiful community with a very reasonable cost of living, and a great place to raise a family. I believe that our residents get outstanding training, and are able to enjoy life in the process
