First “Tax Day Baby” Born at Atrium Health Navicent Receives $1,529 for College

For the ninth year, Atrium Health Navicent and the state of Georgia’s Path2College 529 Plan partnered to award the first “Tax Day Baby” born at the hospital with a college savings contribution. Baby Oaklynn June London was recognized as the first baby born on April 15, and she was awarded a $1,529 contribution to her Path2College 529 Plan. “This is such a nice welcome into the world and a really nice start to have for her education,” said Oaklynn’s mother, Leigha Taylor Gary.

In recognition of Black Maternal Health Week, celebrated nationally April 11-17, Atrium Health Navicent encourages the community to learn about the maternal health disparities that disproportionately affect Black women in Georgia, and ways to combat those disparities. Georgia has one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the nation, and due to a number of factors, black women in our state are more likely to die from pregnancy-related complications.
Atrium Health Navicent Launches Program to Give High School Students an Opportunity to Learn More About Health Careers

Atrium Health Navicent is accepting applications for a new program which will provide Bibb County high school juniors and seniors with the opportunity to shadow health care workers and receive hands-on training for heath careers. Funded by the Navicent Health Foundation, the Realizing and Encouraging Adolescents to pursue Careers in Healthcare (REACH) program, seeks to provide students with a pathway to pursue careers in health care through a four-week session, averaging 32 hours a week.

Pathway to Excellence is the premier designation for healthy work environments and recognizes health care organizations that demonstrate a commitment to establishing the foundation of a healthy workplace for staff. “Supporting our nursing staff with professional development opportunities, a safe work environment and ensuring they have supportive leadership dedicated to their success has a direct impact on how they interact with our patients, leading to the highest quality of patient care,” said Atrium Health Navicent Chief Nurse Executive Tracey Blalock. “Congratulations to Atrium Health Navicent Peach on achieving this designation!” Atrium Health Navicent Peach is one of eight Pathway to Excellence designated hospitals in Georgia and one of 215 in the nation.
