Upon my retirement from the U.S. Navy in 1993, I joined the Family Medicine Residency program here in Macon, Georgia. I came to Macon because I wished to join a program where I could continue training residents (I had been director of the Navy Residency program in Pensacola, Florida) and have an opportunity to use my extensive experience in procedures learned during my military career. The Macon program provided all of my desires coupled with a close affiliation with Mercer University and an outstanding diverse friendly group of fellow faculty and residents. In 1998 I became Residency Director of the program and two years later I was promoted to Chief/Chair of the Department. The atmosphere for Family Medicine in Macon is positive, the support of staff, fellow physicians, and the community is superb. Coming to Macon was the right move for me and my family, staying in Macon has proven it. I come to work each morning excited and expecting a challenging and an enjoyable day, I have yet to be disappointed.
