Take a Walk with a Doc in Milledgeville this Fall

Lace up your sneakers and take a few cool strides toward better health this fall!

Join Baldwin County’s Walk with a Doc wellness group at 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 16. This free walk is open to the community and meets every third Saturday at the Atrium Health Navicent Baldwin walking track, located at 821 N. Cobb St. in Milledgeville. Light refreshments will be served. In the event of rain, the walk will be canceled.

Part of a worldwide program, Walk with a Doc is a free, recurring, doctor-led walking group. Atrium Health Navicent partnered to bring Walk with a Doc to Baldwin County in 2023. The sessions allow participants to safely walk and learn about current health topics. Walks begin with a brief discussion led by a physician and then participants enjoy a healthy walk and conversation.

“The cooler fall weather is ideal for exercising outside,” said Atrium Health Navicent Baldwin Chief Operating Officer Thomas Goss. “We hope you’ll join one of these group walks which offer a great opportunity to learn from the doctor leading the walk, as well as improve your own heart health. Bring your friends and neighbors and create a sense of community as we all walk together toward better health.”

Walk with a Doc will also be held at 9 a.m. Dec. 21.

Walk with a Doc was started in 2005 by Dr. David Sabgir, a cardiologist in Columbus, Ohio. Frustrated with his inability to affect behavior change in the clinical setting, Dr. Sabgir invited his patients to go for a walk with him in a local park on a spring Saturday morning. To his surprise, over 100 people showed up, energized and ready to move. Based on his success, this program has grown and expanded to over 500 communities around the world. Atrium Health Navicent The Medical Center, in collaboration with community partners, started the Walk with a Doc program in Macon in 2019. The Macon chapter meets on the first Saturday of every month at Amerson River Park. Walkers sign in at 8:45 a.m. and meet with the doctor at 9 a.m. during October-March. For April-September, walkers sign in at 7:45 a.m. and meet with the doctor at 8 a.m.
