Grants to Provide Health Career Experience for College, High School Students

Navicent Health Foundation has approved grants totaling $60,000 over three years to fund internships providing local high school and college students experience in the healthcare field.

“Atrium Health Navicent is excited to partner with Wesleyan College, Hutchings College and Career Academy and the Navicent Health Foundation to help train the healthcare workforce of tomorrow and prepare these students to be competitive in the job market upon their graduation,” said Atrium Health Navicent President and CEO Delvecchio Finley. “These partnerships are examples of how Atrium Health Navicent is working to help ensure a brighter future not just for students enrolled in these programs, but also for the central Georgia economy through helping provide a trained workforce for years to come.”

The Atrium Health Navicent and Wesleyan College Key Internship Program will allow students to gain paid clinical or non-clinical health career experience. College juniors and seniors are eligible to apply for acceptance into the program. A $30,000 grant from the Navicent Health Foundation will provide program funding for three years.

The Atrium Health Navicent Hutchings College and Career Academy Student Internship Program will allow 25 high school students annually to participate in an evidence-based pathway for clinical health careers. A $30,000 grant from the Navicent Health Foundation, funded over three years, will cover the cost of student lab and clinical uniforms, CPR certifications and other fees. Students who successfully complete the program will be eligible to obtain certification as an Emergency Medical Technician-Basic from the Georgia Department of Public Health, certification in CPR from the American Heart Association and other credentials.

“As part of our mission to enhance the health services we deliver to the community, the Navicent Health Foundation is excited to make these internships possible,” said Navicent Health Foundation President Ellen Johnson. “We wish the students all the best as they continue to pursue their dreams to become healthcare professionals.”

Students interested in applying for the Atrium Health Navicent and Wesleyan College Key Internship Program or the Atrium Health Navicent Hutchings College and Career Academy Student Internship Program can contact their respective schools for application details.
