Melvin Kruger to kickoff 90th birthday by kicking off reroofing project
WHAT: In celebration of his 90th birthday, L.E. Schwartz & Son CEO Melvin Kruger will remove the first shingle from the roof at Carlyle Place, Atrium Health Navicent to ceremonially begin a new roofing project at the life plan community. A cake and reception will immediately follow the removal of the shingle.
At 90 years of age, Mr. Kruger is still an active leader of L.E. Schwartz & Son. Founded in Macon in 1910, L.E. Schwartz & Son is now one of the largest and most respected commercial and industrial roofing and sheet metal contractors in the country. In 1952, Melvin Kruger, the grandson of company founder L.E. Schwartz, joined the company after graduating from the University of Georgia's school of law. The company saw increased expansion and growth during the 1950's and became a national player in the following decades. In 1987, L.E. Schwartz & Son was selected as the National Roofing Contractor of the Year by RSL Magazine.
An active CEO who is in the office each day, Mr. Kruger is known as a genuine and caring person, and a mentor to many in the roofing industry. He is also the namesake of the Roofing Industry Alliance for Progress' "Melvin Kruger Endowed Scholarship Program," a program that provides assistance to employees and family members of NRCA contractor and supplier members pursing post-secondary education in college or vocational programs.
Mr. Kruger has enjoyed visiting friends and family members at Carlyle Place, Atrium Health Navicent for many years and is looking forward to kicking off the new roofing project.
