Celebration Held for Atrium Health Navicent Patient Unable to Attend College Graduation
Fort Valley State University Graduate Received Degree at Atrium Health Navicent
An Atrium Health Navicent patient who was unable to attend her college graduation due to hospitalization following a car crash was the guest of honor at a graduation celebration Wednesday night.
Representatives from Fort Valley State University presented Asia Whitmore with her degree during a ceremony outside the Peyton Anderson Health Education Center. Friends and family members cheered as the 21-year-old received a B.A. in Psychology.
“Completing a college degree is an accomplishment worthy of celebration. We’re proud to have been able to help Asia and her family celebrate this joyous occasion and we wish her all the best in her healing and in her future,” said Atrium Health Navicent President and CEO Delvecchio Finley.
Nurses from Atrium Health Navicent worked with Whitmore’s family to coordinate the celebration.
“The nursing staff worked closely with the family and the school to provide this opportunity for this young lady who has worked so hard to complete her education,” said Tracey Blalock, RN, MSN, MBA, NEA-BC, Chief Nursing Executive for Atrium Health Navicent. “This is a great example of how nursing care is holistic and provides treatment for the whole person. Nursing is not just about medications and procedures. It’s helping them meet the goals that are important to them.”
