Atrium Health Navicent Supports Community Partners in Providing Food This Holiday Season
To help fight food insecurity in central Georgia, Atrium Health Navicent has provided $25,000 in matching funds for donations to the Middle Georgia Community Food Bank. Because of the food bank’s bulk purchasing power, every dollar donated can provide six meals for those in need.
Atrium Health Navicent also has given $10,000 to Loaves and Fishes, and $15,000 to the Society of St. Andrew, which partnered with the health system for a community food distribution in June that provided boxes of fresh produce to 2,000 families. Society of St. Andrew funds will be used to provide 3,600 pounds of fresh produce to families attending a Hancock County food distribution on Thursday.
“This is a season of thankfulness and for giving, and thanks to the good work being done by community partners like Middle Georgia Community Food Bank, Loaves and Fishes and the Society of St. Andrew, we’re helping individuals right here in our community have access to nutritious meals,” said Angeline Doh, manager of Atrium Health Navicent Healthy Communities. “For those with health issues, it’s so important to have a balanced diet, and it is our hope that with these donations from Atrium Health Navicent, we will help take some of the financial burden off our community partners and allow them to assist more local families.”
The Middle Georgia Community Food Bank and the Society of St. Andrew are also partners in the Atrium Health Navicent Food as Medicine Market (FAMM), which is both a Specialized Food Pantry and a Food Farmacy.
The Specialized Food Pantry is a nutrition education-based food pantry that is open to anyone who is food insecure. In addition to shopping for free healthy food options, other services offered at FAMM include nutritional education and access to enroll in SNAP benefits. Call 478-633-5656 to make an appointment.
The Food Farmacy is available by provider referral only. To quality, patients must be under the care of an Atrium Health Navicent physician and have a chronic disease that requires dietary restrictions.
