Atrium Health Navicent Now Offers COVID-19 Vaccine for Children Aged 6 Months and Older

Atrium Health Navicent is now offering COVID-19 vaccines for children aged 6 months and older.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommended in June that children aged 6 months through 5 years be vaccinated against COVID-19. Vaccines have previously been approved for use in children aged 5 and older, and for adults.
“We are very excited that we have the COVID-19 vaccine available for children aged 6 months up through 4 years of age,” said Dr. Yameika Head, director of Clinical Practice – Pediatrics for Atrium Health Navicent Medical Group. “Vaccination is the best tool we have to protect our children from serious illness and hospitalization due to COVID-19. This disease has not gone away. Children have suffered from COVID-19 complications and long-COVID, and some have died. We must do all we can to protect our children, including the most vulnerable babies and toddlers.”
COVID-19 cases in children can result in hospitalizations, death and long-term complications, such as long-COVID and Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C), a rare, but serious condition associated with COVID-19 and other viral infections in which different body parts – such as the heart, lungs, kidneys, brain, skin, eyes or gastrointestinal organs – become inflamed.
Physicians at Atrium Health Navicent continue to urge that older children and adults become vaccinated, and that individuals receive a booster shot if eligible.
