Atrium Health Navicent Baldwin Nurse Recognized for Excellent Patient Care
When a patient readmitted for care at Atrium Health Navicent Baldwin began exhibiting concerning symptoms, Heather Hall, an Intensive Care Unit nurse at the hospital, knew just what to do. Having previously cared for the patient, her close attention to detail and willingness to help meant the patient was able to get the care they needed more quickly.Because of her compassionate, skillful care, Hall is the latest recipient of the DAISY Award, which recognizes nurses for outstanding care.
“Heather is an extremely dedicated and hardworking nurse in our ICU,” said Lana Maddox, nurse manager for Atrium Health Navicent Baldwin’s Intensive Care Unit. “Her awareness, attention to detail and advocation for patients is inspiring. Our hospital and our community are so blessed to have Heather and her willingness to go above and beyond in patient care.”
The family of Patrick Barnes established the DAISY Foundation after Barnes died from an auto-immune disease while being treated in a Seattle hospital. The award is a special honor given to extraordinary nurses whose work goes above and beyond expectations. A nurse can be nominated by patients or family members who experience or observe extraordinarily compassionate care provided by a nurse, or by hospital teammates. Nominations are reviewed by a blind panel to choose a winner.
Hall was presented with a DAISY pin and a sculpture entitled “A Healer's Touch." The nurse and her teammates were also treated with cinnamon buns, a DAISY tradition.
She is the 14th nurse honored with the DAISY award at Atrium Health Navicent Baldwin since May 2022. These extraordinary nurses are a huge part of why Atrium Health Navicent Baldwin received the prestigious Pathway to Excellence Program designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center earlier this year.
