Atrium Health Navicent Baldwin Now Offering In-Person Childbirth Classes
Beginning in June, Atrium Health Navicent Baldwin is offering in-person childbirth classes. Classes are held in 4-week cohorts, with the first cohort beginning at 10 a.m. June 7. The class meets for two hours weekly.
Doctors recommend that women should begin prenatal care as soon as they learn they are pregnant. Preparing to welcome a little one is made easier through childbirth classes, which help expectant parents prepare for bringing a baby into the world. Physicians recommend that all pregnant patients participate in classes between the 24th and 36th weeks of pregnancy, with all classes completed by the 36th week.
“While virtual classes have been offered for some time, in-person classes allow attendees to build relationships with other expectant parents, and have a more enriching experience as they learn how to prepare for birth and what to expect after the baby comes home,” said Chevair Mustafa, nursing manager for Women’s Services at Atrium Health Navicent Baldwin. In-person breastfeeding classes are also being offered at Atrium Health Navicent Baldwin at 5 p.m. on June 4 and June 25.
For those who can’t attend in-person classes, ongoing virtual classes include:
• Preparing for Childbirth: In this live virtual class, a registered nurse will provide information about what to expect during labor and delivery, relaxation and breathing techniques to help during labor and pain management options.
• Breastfeeding Basics: In this live virtual class, a registered nurse will teach tips and techniques to help mothers have a positive, successful breastfeeding journey. Class topics include how breastfeeding works, how to establish a good milk supply, how to help your baby latch, how to position your baby for breastfeeding and how to determine if your baby is getting enough milk. Resources for additional support will also be discussed.
• Understanding Infant and Child Safety: In this live virtual class, a registered nurse will discuss common accidents and injuries affecting infants, what you can do to prevent injury and how to be prepared in the event of an emergency.
Atrium Health Navicent Women’s Care OB/GYN Baldwin, located on the Milledgeville hospital’s campus, offers general obstetric and gynecological care, including pap smears, well woman visits and prenatal care for routine and high-risk pregnancies.
