Hope for Kids, the Hematology Oncology Place of Excellence, is a service of The Children's Hospital at Navicent Health. Hope for Kids is an outpatient clinic serving children in the Central & South Georgia area who have not only pediatric cancer, but also blood disorders. The staff at the Hope for Kids cares for children with such diagnoses as leukemia, Hodgkin's disease, Wilm's tumors and also blood disorders such as sickle cell anemia, hemophilia, and thrombocytopenia.

Children visit the child-friendly environment office for an evaluation by our pediatric hematologist/oncologist and/or our pediatric nurse practitioner. They may also come to have blood drawn for lab studies or to have their ports accessed. The Hope for Kids office has outpatient chemotherapy, intravenous fluids, and or intramuscular medications administered to them in our infusion room. The room is complete with comfortable recliners, televisions with DVD players and of course, video games. The office includes a laboratory in which simple blood tests can be run on site while the patient waits. The physician has the capability of reviewing blood slides in the laboratory as well.

Also available at in the clinic is an educational conference room in which staff can meet with families and patients quietly to discuss the child's treatment or new diagnosis. This room is also used to educate families on their child's diagnosis and treatment.

The Hope for Kids staff includes our Pediatric Hematologist/Oncologist, Dr. Vishwas Sakhalkar. Dr. Sakhalkar is board certified in pediatrics as well as pediatric hematology/oncology.  In addition to Dr. Sakhalkar, the office staff includes pediatric nurses, a pediatric nurse practitioner, medical assistant, a practice assistant, and a patient accounts specialist.
