Atrium Health Navicent Launches Program for Veterans

Free Heart Screenings for Those Who Served in Armed Forces

MACON, GA (Tuesday, November 11, 2014) – The Medical Center, Navicent Health (MCNH) would like to honor those who have selflessly served in the United States military by launching the “Always Free for Vets” screening program, a program that will provide important cardiovascular testing for veterans at no charge.

Heart disease and stroke are two leading causes of death in the United States. Veterans may lower their risk for these two conditions by participating in an Angioscreen exam. Angioscreen is a non-invasive, non-radiation, painless and quick service that provides information about heart rhythm, blood flow and cardiovascular fitness. Angioscreens last for approximately 10 minutes and include the following eight screenings:

  • Abdominal aortic ultrasound
  • Blood flow to leg arteries
  • Blood pressure in both arms
  • Body mass index (BMI)
  • Carotid artery ultrasound
  • EKG
  • Peak blood flow velocity
  • Pulse

After the test is performed, the participant will have the opportunity to consult with a clinician. The participant will also receive an immediate print-out and digital results to share with his or her primary care physician. Both consultations will allow the participant to establish a personalized plan for combating heart disease and stroke.

“Atrium Health Navicent is committed to keeping people at the center of all that we do, and navigating each member of our community down the path of personal health and wellness. We not only wish to provide patient-centered care for those in our community, but our desire is that Atrium Health Navicent will become a destination provider of choice. We particularly want to take care of those who have served our country. Providing this free screening is our small way of thanking those who served our country with dedication and selflessness,” said Dr. Ninfa M. Saunders, President and CEO of Atrium Health Navicent.

For more information, or to schedule an Angioscreen, those interested may contact MCNH at 1-844-344-VETS (8387). A VA or DOD 214 card, or honorable discharge paperwork, will be required in order to receive the screening at no charge.
