AngioScreen Offered at The Medical Center of Peach County, Navicent Health
Screening Determines Patient's Risk for Heart Disease
MACON, GA (Wednesday, November 4, 2015) - The Medical Center of Peach County, Atrium Health Navicent (MCPC) will offer AngioScreen, a noninvasive screening to determine a patient's risk of heart disease, on Thursday, November 12. Screenings will be offered from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. in MCPC's Board Room (1960 Highway 247 Connector, Byron).
Those interested in obtaining a screening may call 1-800-627-2393 to register. There is a $50 fee for this screening, but Angioscreen is offered at no charge for U.S. military veterans.
AngioScreen is a noninvasive, painless and quick screening that provides information about heart rhythm, neck and leg arteries, blood pressure, body mass index and cardiovascular fitness. AngioScreen specifically uses a carotid artery ultrasound test to determine the presence of plaque in the arteries leading to the brain, and an ankle brachial test to determine blockages in the legs, the number one early predictor of heart disease. AngioScreen also tests for atrial fibrillation, a common adult arrhythmia and a contributor to stroke. The screening lasts approximately 12 minutes, and participants receive colored photographs to share with their physicians if medical care is needed to prevent heart attack or stroke.
“AngioScreen is a tool to empower people, allowing them to become well-informed, proactive in their healthcare. The screening provides participants with a tool to identify cardiovascular disease before heart attack or stroke occur,” said Darren Pearce, Chief Administrative Officer of MCPC.
Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States for both men and women, with no regard for race or ethnicity. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that one in every four deaths in the U.S. is related to heart disease.
