Dr. Vishwas Sakhalkar, MD, FAAP

Dr. Vishwas S. Sakhalkar, MD is Board Certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Hematology/Oncology. He has been a Pediatric Hematology/Oncologist at the Children's Hospital of Atrium Health Navicent located in Macon, Georgia since 2011. Dr. Sakhalkar is a prodigious strength to our health system and has been instrumental in expanding the one-physician practice to a three-physician group.

Dr. Sakhalkar is from Mumbai, India and in 1986 completed his Medical School training at G.S. Medical College, Bombay University, India. Bombay a.k.a Mumbai University is among the top ten medical schools in India. Upon completion of his training, he decided to focus on the field of Pediatrics and took up Pediatric Residency training at the Mumbai University.

Dr. Sakhalkar was working as a faculty member in the Mumbai University when he decided to further his education in the United States. He was accepted into the Pediatric Residency training program at the Children's Hospital of Michigan, located in Detroit, MI.

Dr. Sakhalkar continued with a three-year fellowship-training program in the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at The State University of New York, located in Brooklyn, NY. Most of his time was spent at the Downstate Medical Center and Kings County Hospital.

Dr. Sakhalkar has expanded his education and personal growth as a Professor of Pediatrics at Mercer University School of Medicine. He is also a consultant physician at the Medical Center at Atrium Health Navicent in Macon, GA. In addition, he is an Adjuvant Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL.

To share his knowledge base, he is an elected and active member of the Society for Pediatric Research, American Society of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and American Society of Hematology. He actively contributes in the training of medical students, Pediatric Residents, Family Practice, Internal Medicine and Surgery residents at the Mercer University School of Medicine.

Dr. Sakhalkar is an acclaimed author, peer reviewer, researcher, and has collaborated on many textbooks, as well as medical journals. He has appeared on many radio and television programs to share his expertise in cancer and blood disorders of children.

Dr. Sakhalkar is known for his well-rounded care of kids with cancer of the bone and tissues, sickle cell, anemias, blood disorders, and blood cancers. Diseases such as ALL, AML, Hodgkin's, Non-Hodgkin's lymphomas, kidney tumors are just some of the specialty diseases.

However, with his unprecedented plethora of knowledge he chooses to take any available spare time to spread awareness about cancer and blood disorders in children. He shows his support by shaving his head every September during Children's cancer awareness month. He participates in open forum discussions and continues to inspire the families to share their personal stories.
