Navicent Health Prepares for National Healthcare Decisions Day

Attorney to Offer Free Advice on Advance Healthcare Directives

MACON, GA (Monday, April 11, 2016) -Navicent Health, along with other national, state and community organizations, will highlight the importance of advanced healthcare decision making on April 16, National Healthcare Decisions Day.

As a participating organization, Atrium Health Navicent will provide information and tools for the public to talk about their wishes with family, friends and healthcare providers, and execute written advance directives, which include a healthcare power of attorney and treatment preferences for end of life, in accordance with Georgia state laws.

Julia Magda, attorney at law with Magda Law, LLC will provide information about advance care planning and completing advance directive forms at a free event on Friday, April 15, 12:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. The event will take place at Wellness Center, Atrium Health Navicent (3797 Northside Drive in Macon). Magda and experienced healthcare professionals will be available to answer questions and to assist people who choose to fill out advance care planning documentation.

“National Healthcare Decisions Day will encourage people in our community to have thoughtful conversations about their wishes for care, and complete reliable advance directives to make their wishes known. Fewer families and healthcare providers will have to struggle with making difficult healthcare decisions in the absence of guidance from the patient. Healthcare providers and facilities will be better equipped to address advance healthcare planning issues before a crisis and be better able to honor patient wishes when the time comes to do so,” said Carol Babcock, MFT, Director of Palliative Care, Navicent Health.
