Children's Hospital Nurse Selected as Nurse of the Year
March of Dimes Awards Atrium Health Navicent Nurse in Statewide Competition
MACON, GA (Monday, December 22, 2014) – Atrium Health Navicent Beverly Knight Olson Children's Hospital (CH) nurse Michelle Dyes, RN has been chosen as Nurse of the Year by the Georgia Chapter of the March of Dimes. Dyes, who serves patients and families in CH's Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), was recognized at the Fifth Annual Nurse of the Year Awards in Atlanta this November.
The Nurse of the Year ceremony is a statewide event that recognizes exceptional nurses, creates awareness of professional excellence and promotes the future of the nursing profession. Dyes, the top finisher in the “Pediatric” category, is one of 16 nurses from across the state to be recognized for her efforts to provide comfort, care and support to patients and their loved ones.
“So many nurses go above and beyond what is required to ensure that their patients and the patients' loved ones are cared for, not only physically, but mentally, emotionally and spiritually as well. Nurses can at times be the unsung heroes of healthcare. We are grateful to The March of Dimes for honoring the profession of nursing through the Nurse of the Year program, and we are so pleased that Michelle has been recognized as one of the top nurses in the state of Georgia,” said Dr. Ninfa M. Saunders, President and CEO of Atrium Health Navicent.
The March of Dimes accepted more than 800 nominations for the awards, and from those, over 200 finalists emerged. A committee comprised of healthcare professionals chose the winners for each category. Nurses were nominated in categories ranging from critical care to women's health

Atrium Health Navicent is honored to have so many of our nurses recognized, and thrilled to have one chosen as Nurse of the Year in Pediatrics. Michelle provides excellent patient care on a daily basis, and is well-deserving of this honor,” said Tracey Blalock, RN, Chief Nursing Officer for Atrium Health Navicent.
